Bacteria is Your Friend

Probiotics are bacteria that promote a healthy digestive system.  In fact, probiotics are necessary for proper digestion and absorption of your food and nutrients.  Probiotics are also helpful in boosting your immune system.  Adding probiotics to your diet during the holiday season is a wise healthy choice both to help prevent that stomach ache and to prevent colds and flu.

Probiotics are found in foods such as yogurt with live and active cultures, miso and tempeh, which is a soybean product.  You can also supplement your diet with over the counter probiotics which come in the form of powders, tablets, and capsules.  Probiotics can be found at your health food store, local grocers, or your pharmacy.  Many people successfully take probiotics daily to treat chronic diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive disorders.  It is easy to add to your daily routine and can make a world of difference in how you feel.  Stomach ache be gone!  No more post holiday blues for you with the use of probiotics during the holiday season.

Enzymes Can Help Too

Enzymes are catalysts that speed up chemical reactions.  They play an important part in the digestion of our food, starting in our mouth.  Our bodies make enzymes naturally but as we get older they weaken and decrease and become less effective.  This leads to digestive problems and, often, a stomach ache.

Adding an enzyme supplement to your diet can often improve your body’s ability to digest food. There are several different types of enzymes that can help with digestion. For example Protease helps to digest proteins, Celluase helps to digest cellulose (the fiber found in fruits and vegetables) and lactase helps to digest lactose found in milk products.

The holidays can really take a toll on your body.  If your digestive system is out of wack it an leave you with a whopping stomach ache.  Being ready and proactive can prevent stomach problems for occurring.  It makes for a much happier holiday.

Had to laugh when I read your title earlier today Jana. I had that problem just finishing eating on Thanksgiving Day. The milk and cheese did me in (and I took a lactaid pill.) This reminds me I should look into Probiotics again. Thanks for the reminder on it! Christmas is still coming :)
