The future of diabetes management has arrived! I had the pleasure of attending the BlogWorld 2011 Convention this past weekend. I learned so much and the entire expo was fantastic. However as wonderful as it all was, there was only one phrase that caught my rapt attention. That phrase is just 2 little words, “Diabetic App”.
What is a Diabetic App?
A diabetic app is a high tech but simple tool you can download onto your iPhone to help manage your diabetes. There are many diabetic applications on the market today but the one I heard about last weekend is particularly exciting to me. It is called the EndoGoddess App and was just released last weekend.
What is the Endogoddess App?
The Endogoddess App is the brainchild of a physician named Jennifer Shine Dyer, M.D. Dr Dyer along with eproximiti.com have brought this technology to fruition and is now available on iTunes for download. It is only .99 cents but worth its weight in gold
The EndoGoddess App is a diabetes management system much like the paper logs many people with diabetes are already familiar with. These logs are used to record blood sugar and insulin administration levels. They provide an at-a-glance framework to see how well an individuals blood sugars are managed. The EndoGoddess application provides a mobile tool to replace these logs plus record carbohydrate intake. This impressive diabetic management system is educational, serves to alert the patient with reminders and has a social media component as well. Isn’t that exciting?
So Why is the EndoGoddess App better than the others?
The reason why I love this diabetic management app so much is that it also rewards the user for following their diabetic program. This fantastic tool records a patients compliance with their plan and rewards the patient with points. At the end of the week the points can be redeemed at iTunes to download one song of the user’s choice. Isn’t that just brilliant?
Do you have any idea how many patients I meet who have insulin dependent diabetes that don’t even check their blood sugars once per day? Folks, these people are in a real danger zone. They are not taking a pro-active role in their own health, nor are they compliant with their diabetic program as outlined by their doctor.
The EndoGoddess App is an incredible tool to help newly diagnosed and non compliant patients learn how to manage their diabetes better. It is also a fantastic resource for young kids and teens that gives them direct feedback about how effectively they are managing their diabetes. Further, it is a great system to help older adults remember their diabetic routine as well.

What does the future hold?
I don’t know what the future holds but it can only be more of a good thing. This diabetic management app is the beginning of something extraordinary. I can see that similar programs could be used in every population for various disease processes. I can imagine a reward system that could be beneficial to people who may choose to use it in the form of a coupon for groceries, goods, or medications. Compliance with your medication regime could actually result in a savings for patients. WOW! I really love it.
I can also imagine a version of this tool used in hospitals, coordinating the doctors orders with a computerized system to remind nurses of medication times for their patients. This could significantly reduce medication errors in the hospital setting.
Like I said, the possibilities are limitless and very exciting. The EndoGoddess App is a fantastic diabetic management system. Who knows where it could lead.
