Doc’s Cholesterol Lowering Plan

How Could He Have High Cholesterol?

Doc is in incredible shape.  He has exercised 3-4 days a week ever since I have known him.  He is completely committed to exercise and to miss a day leaves him forlorn and, well, grumpy.  IMG 3921 Docs Cholesterol Lowering PlanHe eats well too.  No sweet tooth for him.  He does like his cheese but I think that is really his only weakness.  So, why is his cholesterol 222. That is not the worst of it.  His HDL and his LDL numbers are inverted.  So even though 222 doesn’t sound that high, it is really much worse than it looks because his good cholesterol is very low and his bad cholesterol is very high.

He already added an extra day of working out to his plan.  He says he is living proof that increasing your exercise alone is not enough to lower your cholesterol. IMG 7333 Docs Cholesterol Lowering PlanIMG 7288 Docs Cholesterol Lowering Plan He believes, and so do I, that it takes a lifestyle dietary change as well.

Doc’s cholesterol is high because of this man.  IMG 6205 195x300 Docs Cholesterol Lowering PlanYes, his father and his father’s father etc.  A generation of cardiac nightmares.  With that kind of history backing him up you would think he would just throw in the towel and give up.  No, not my man. No way, no how.  He has amazing drive and determination….and commitment and resoluteness and bravery and handsomeness…..

He’s just so cool.

    Jana,

Bill has the same problem. He is also very fit but it keeps creeping up. My sisters husband too, both 35-46. My brother-in-law told Bill about a natural suppliment called Red yeast rice, can be found with the vitamins. Both Bill and my brother-in-law have had success with it. Bill dropped 10 points.

He did some resurch and you do need to know whatelse you are takeing and if its right for you.

    Hello Jana,

My husband found out he had high cholesterol only after he had a stroke two years ago. That is when we changed how we ate and lived. We balance our meals now, watch what we eat, and exercise. The doctor took him off his meds last year. Before and after photos are on my blog. We journal our food everyday and have now for two years.

Yes, Red Yeast is a supplement that has the same substances that is in statins. Red yeast is very effective in lowering cholesterol but does have the same side effects as the statin drugs. That means that it is very hard on the liver. It is important to meet with your doctor before taking this supplement. You are right, do your research and determine what is best for you.
